Busy as a Bee

You know your life is crazy busy when going to your daytime job is relaxing. At least when I'm at work, I know what I need to do and nobody can bother me except 5 and 6 year olds, and they are awesome.

It's after work, when I'm driving from house to house for tutoring. Then to and from our apartment and the house trying to get things moved. And then moving into a house that is torn apart. And then spending every waking minute cleaning, trying to put stuff away, running errands and talking on the phone trying to get insurance figured out and services to our house. But it's amazing what you can get done when you don't have cable. We are going to try it out for a few months. I think no TV in the summer will be pretty easy, but I don't know how football season is going to go.

Oh yeah, did I mention that Tarell Bauld and Mike Braun were here for two days to put in our windows, then two days after that Kelsea Sutton was here to spend the weekend with us. And Tim and Karen will be here sometime today and are staying with us all week! After they leave, Stacy Pettit will be in Denver from Alaska, and then 3 days after that I'm getting on a plane to Sioux Falls for Autumn's Bachelorette Party in Okoboji. Thank God for my iCal keeping me organized.

Life is crazy, but a good crazy. We still have three more days of school next week and then summer will finally be here. Actually I felt like the snow just left, so I'm not quite ready for summer yet. Ready or not, here it comes...

Kelsea and I in Boulder

Derreck bought me a housewarming gift! It's a Red Irishman Cactus. #husbandoftheweek

Here is our bedroom. It's finished other than the trim around the window. (I probably should have made the bed before I took this picture--oops!)

And here is our living room..I hope we can get this room finished this week.

In the process of putting stuff away and making supper.

Our new washer and dryer. We got a heck of a deal on these machines at the Sears Outlet. I could really care less that one is silver and one is white.

The cut-out between the kitchen and living room. Derreck is putting rounded corners on.

This morning is off to a rough start so I decided to take a break and write on our blog. First I walked right into the air compressor and thought I broke my knee cap. Then about 45 minutes later I fell down our stairs at the apartment while carrying a box full of kitchen utensils.  I'm probably lucky that I didn't get stabbed by the 20 knives that were in the box. The neighbor lady downstairs came to my rescue. Now Derreck wants me to mow the lawn but I'm nervous I might lose a limb.

Oh yeah, and I bought a new car last weekend! We were on our way to Boulder when the dealership called. We turned around, and 3 hours later we were back on the road to Boulder.

Hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable Memorial Day weekend! The weather is absolutely beautiful here, and the forecast looks very promising. We are hoping to get a round of golf in, hit up a Rockies game, and maybe even try to fit the Casey Donahew Concert at Red Rocks in tomorrow night.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to two very important ladies! I can honestly say that we have the best moms in the whole entire world. We cannot thank them enough for everything, and we wish that we could be back in SD to spend the day with them. They are the hardest working women that I know, but they still find time to spoil their kids. =) I miss them soooo much!

Here is a survey that we gave to our 2nd graders at school. I thought it would be funny to catch Derreck off guard and ask him the same questions, but he made me be a good sport and do it too. x

So here it goes...

1. What makes your mom happy?
Derreck: "Doing my chores." (I think he means when he used to help with chores on the ranch, but it made me laugh because he sounds like a little kid who is supposed to be making his bed every morning.)
Danielle: "The Packers winning"
2. What makes your mom sad?
Derreck: "I don't really know. That's weird."
Danielle: "Me living in Colorado"
3. How does your mom make you laugh?
Derreck: "When she makes fun of other people" (I'm not so sure that I have ever heard Karen make fun of somebody..)
Danielle: "When she acts like her mother"
4. How old is your mom?
Derreck: "50?"
Danielle: "52"
5. What does your mom do when you’re not around?
Derreck: "I suppose she works."
Danielle: "She talks to Addie"
6. What is your mom really good at?
Derreck: "Finding my stuff and growing a garden."
Danielle: "Finding my stuff and having fun" (I had to go with Derreck on this one. If our moms don't know where it is, we are in trouble.)
7. What is your mom not very good at?
Derreck: "Staying up late"
Danielle: "Relaxing"
8. What does your mom do for a job?
Derreck: "She's a farmer, rancher, and financial person."
Danielle: "Bank teller and cleaning lady"
9.What is your mom’s favorite food?
Derreck: "My mom's favorite food? I don't even know."
Danielle: "Chicken"
10. What do you and your mom do together?
Derreck: "Nothing..We clean, we party, we eat, all that stuff.."
Danielle: "Drink beer" (Sadly this only happens about 4 times a year now..)
11. How do you know your mom loves you?
Derreck: "She helps me out all the time you dummy!"
Danielle: "Um..I will go with what Derreck said on this one"
12. Where is your mom’s favorite place to go?
Derreck: "I don't know. I like going to the cabin and my mom likes it there too."
Danielle: "Mary Bob's or Pierre"
13. Complete this sentence: “My mom is as pretty as a __________”
Derreck: "flower"
Danielle: "puppy" (Can you tell that I really want a puppy right now? It's the cutest thing I could think of.)
14. What’s the SMARTEST thing your mom has ever told you?
Derreck: "You can't afford that"
Danielle: "Don't be stupid."
15. If you could give your mom ANYTHING in the world, what would it be?
Derreck: "I'm sick of this...."
Danielle: "A job...or possibly a baby." I would much rather have a job...Sorry Moms, but no babies here!
16. What’s the CRAZIEST THING you’ve ever seen your mom do?
Derreck: "Spook my Aunt Bev in the window"
Danielle: "Oh boy...drive a van full of 15 drunk kids to Burke on my graduation or singing and dancing on a cooler at the river or....there's quite a few things actually!"
17.  What food does your mom COOK THE BEST?
Derreck: "I don't think she can do anything better to her sour cream beef enchiladas."
Danielle: "She makes a pretty good batch of Chili"
Happy Mother's Day!

RIP Old Blue

Well when it rains, it pours..er, something like that.

My weekend was just getting started when I got t-boned at an intersection coming home from tutoring on Friday afternoon. Some guy ran a red light. I did see him, just not in time to get completely out of the way. However, I'm glad I stepped on it and he struck the back end of my car. Luckily I wasn't hurt, but I'm still upset about the situation. And now is not the time for me to have to buy a car. School is ending this month and I still don't have a job for next year. The search continues..for a car and a job..

This cheered me up! I found this deck of cards in the glove box while I was cleaning out my car..They have most definitely been in there since their wedding.

Although I was sore on Saturday, we still ventured out to the beer festival in the afternoon. We had already bought tickets on Groupon, and figured it would be a good way to forget about the wreck. I don't know if I enjoyed the beer or the people watching more, but all in all, it was a good time. My favorite beer was the Apricot Orchard. Think Summer Shandy with Apricot instead of Lemon. Delish!

Tarell and Mike Braun are coming out this weekend to help put in windows. I'm looking forward to it. I never knew the day would come in my life when I would be this excited for new windows.

It's Teacher's Appreciation Week. If I make it through the week without gaining 20 lbs, I will be surprised!

Hope everyone is having a good week!
