Soup season is here..yay for Derreck's homemade chili!

Yay for Visitors!

Kellie and Jeremy came to to Denver last weekend and we had so much fun. I think I finally came out of my food and beer coma. =) They arrived on Wednesday and left on Monday morning. On Wednesday night, we went to our favorite happy hour spot Wrigley's. We went to The Breckenridge Brewery on Thursday night, and ate sushi here on Friday night. The beer was good, and the sushi was even better. On Saturday, we headed to Golden to the farmer's market and then to Belmar for an Italian festival. The food, beer, wine, music, grape stomping, games, bocce ball etc. made it feel like we were strolling the streets of Italy. We grilled out on Saturday night which consisted of homemade potato salad, shoepeg corn, and steaks from the Martins. On Sunday, we ventured to the Coors Brewery and then to Twin Peaks to watch football. We had intentions of going downtown to tailgate for the Broncos game, but the birthday boy, Derreck, decided our apartment sounded like a better option. On Sunday night, we went to Park Burger in Highlands and ran into Megan Glover and her boyfriend Cole. It was so random, but it was nice to see a familiar face. We were sad to see Jeremy and Kellie leave, but it's nice to get back into a routine.

I love my job at Blue Heron Elementary School. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and the community is great. 

I'm really looking forward to going back to Gregory in a few weeks for my bridal shower and bachelorette party. I feel like I haven't seen my friends forever, and to be honest, some of them I haven't seen in 9 months. It will be so much fun.

The wedding is sneaking up very quickly, so I'm dragging Derreck out to go shopping for a suit to wear and to get his finger measured for a wedding band. Here is how our conversation went. I said, "Let go to the mall and get your finger measured so I can order your wedding band." He said, "I don't want a band at the wedding." Wow! This is a typical Derreck statement, but at least there is never a dull moment. 

If you are bored around the Gregory area this weekend, stop by the Gregory Golf Course on Saturday afternoon and watch my mom and Cheryl take on Boogie and Wade Broome in a two-person scramble. They are raising money for the movie theatre in Gregory. I don't know about you, but I would say this is definitely well worth a few bucks. I promise you will get your daily dose of laughing in. Let me mind you that Cheryl has maybe golfed one hole in her life, and those two make quite the pair. Especially when beer and golf carts are involved. 

The weather is starting to cool down, and fall is creeping in. Can't wait for hooded sweatshirts, falling leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and soup.

Weekend in South Dakota

Last weekend over Labor Day, Derreck and I went to the Black Hills to Tim and Karen's cabin in Hisega. We had such a great time with our families. My brother and Kate came from Pierre and my mom, Kirby, Tim, and Karen came from Gregory/Burke. The Broome Clan was also there. We spent our weekend eating fish and Derreck's BBQ, drinking, watching college football, playing Phase Ten, making a few prank phone calls, hiking, taking Addie for a swim in the creek, and playing Bocce ball. Bocce ball is such a silly game, but is so much fun. I can't wait for a re-match next year. Machelle/Me vs. Wade/Kirby. It was a close one, but we were victorious! 

We also spent a lot of time reminiscing at the cabin. I'll never forget our summer vacations to the cabin with my Grandma Flo and my parents. We went out there at least once every summer. I'm so thankful that Tim and Karen bought my Great-Aunt Pat's cabin which is about 15 yards from my Grandma Flo's cabin that is now owned by Jack and Marcia. The cabin was in need of some TLC, and the Martin's have been putting a lot of work and time into it. It is looking great! I look forward to creating many more memories there.
