Well my spring break started out kinda like Spring...."In like a lion, out like a lamb.."

1. Tyler and Val's flight was delayed 3.5 hours on Friday. 
2. The weather absolutely sucked while they were here.
3. Our only friends in Denver are moving to Boise, ID next week.
4. We wrecked my car on Friday coming home from the airport. 

But we ended up having a good weekend with Val and Tyler despite the blizzard. Our weekend was filled lots of food, shopping, bowling, and basketball. On Saturday night, we went to the Nugget's game. It was fun, but I never realized how professional basketball is kind of a joke. It's entertainment, not basketball.

On Sunday, we went bowling at Belmar. It was pretty fun considering that Val and I whooped up on the guys 2 games in a row. Derreck cleared the screen before I could get evidence. 

On Tuesday, I drove back to SD and surprised my mom at work. She was pretty excited! Then of course, we went to Mary Bob's for Happy Hour. 

Yesterday, I went to eat lunch with Lincoln Juracek at school, then spent the evening down at TikaMar Ranch with Karen and Kaycee, and toured the Van Metre's newly remodeled house in Burke.

Today I am being lazy and running errands. I also found a gem in the basement yesterday. SUPER NINTENDO! 

S is for Spring Break and South Dakota

Boy does that title make me feel like a teacher.

I'm so excited as I'm sitting here enjoying my cup of coffee that I had to update our blog. 
Here's why: 

1. Today is Friday and we have an early dismissal.

2. The VanJuran's fly in tonight. We are going to have so much fun this weekend. 

3. Spring Break. In Colorado, we get a week off for spring break. WooHoo! Much needed for me and the kids! They are starting to do crazy things.

4. We will be homeowners in 9 days! 

We don't have any concrete plans for the weekend yet. However, I'm sure it will consist of a little retail therapy for Val and I and a little March Madness for the Tyler and Derreck. The SD State women also play in Boulder on Saturday so we might venture up there.  

I'm a little bummed about the weather. Of course it would be the coldest day of the year while they were here. It was 50-60 degrees in January and now 20 degrees at the end of March.

Spring is here! (I think)

Derreck and I had a somewhat successful baking experience. The dough didn't turn out correctly, but we spent a few peaceful hours in the kitchen together! They tasted good, but I think I will just stick to the frozen, pre-made rolls next time and make our own caramel.

 

While walking to Barnes and Noble, I noticed this sign on the door at Cold Stone. Haha! I love finding grammatical errors in public. 

Looking forward to the 70 degree weather that they are predicting for us this weekend!

Snow Day!

The weatherman predicted about 20 inches of snow and I think we are on track to get that much by the end of the day.

So we are having a snow day! We have cleaning, laundry, working out and making caramel rolls on our agenda.   Derreck wanted to make homemade caramel rolls. He said when he was little, Tim would get everything out to make homemade donuts on snow days. That conversation led to about an hour of reminiscing about our childhood. Snow days as a kid were the best! I remember having to shovel in the front of the jewelry store and then having french fries and gravy at Stukel's served by Carol Anderson. Then we usually ended the day by sledding down the Buttes with the Sperls. I will never forget the time Ben wrecked into a tree and had to go to the ER. There was blood trail from the Buttes to their house for a week. 

But back on track, Derreck called his mom who called Margaret Ann Bailey to get her caramel roll recipe. This will be a true test on our marriage because Derreck and I don't work well together in the kitchen. Stay tuned later this weekend for pictures of our baking experience.

Derreck saw something strange on the inside of his beer bottle so he was determined to figure out what it was. It involved my pink hammer and a mozzarella cheese bag.

He got it! But then couldn't find the strange substance in the hundreds of glass pieces that remained. Hmm...

Last night was game night at the Martin apartment. Two games of Jenga and Phase Ten entertained us for a few hours.

And we are ready for the snow storm! That is the tallest bottle of wine that I have ever seen, and I couldn't resist when it was on display by the cash register. Well played, liquor store, well played!

Another Day, Another Dollar.

There's not much to report this week. I picked up another tutoring gig which I'm looking forward to starting this week. 

On Monday, Derreck and I went out for supper for Denver's Restaurant Week. Restaurant Week is where the best restaurants in Denver offer selected menus for $52.80/couple. 5280 is a mile high (Denver's altitude).  It's very popular and you have to make reservations weeks in advance. There are 100's of places to choose from, so Derreck and I both picked out a place to eat. 

I chose The Melting Pot in Littleton. It's a fondue restaurant and was really good. We had cheese fondue for an appetizer, and chocolate fondue for dessert. They also brought shrimp, chicken, and steak to our table, and we had to cook it in the pot right at our table. It was a fun experience. 

Derreck chose Texas de Brazil, which is a Brazillian grill and steakhouse. We are headed there next weekend. 

We had our house inspection yesterday. Other than some plumbing issues, there was nothing major that needs to be fixed. It definitely needs some TLC, but we will just have to do one project at a time.
